Product Care

HOW SHOULD YOU TAKE CARE OF OUR JEWELLERY?

As is the general rule, jewellery should always be looked after with great care, regardless of what it is comprised of.

Caring for jewellery involves some simple advice:

  • Avoid contact with any cosmetics or household products that could damage the colour.
  • To clean jewellery always use soap and warm water (neutral PH) and a brush with soft bristles. Dry afterwards with a cloth.
  • It is important to check the clasps and catches frequently to see if they are secure.
  • It is also recommended to check the settings frequently in jewellery to make sure that the stones are not loose or have not already fallen out.
  • Do not expose jewellery to extreme temperatures.
  • The correct protection for each piece is to keep it in its original box or bag.
  • If you use a jewellery case, make sure that the pieces are kept in separate compartments.
  • Avoid leaving chains loose and out as they may get knots in them.

If you have any doubts about the condition of your jewellery, we recommend that you not wear it until it has been checked by an expert. MEL JEWEL team is very happy to help.

SILVER JEWELLERY CARE

  • Always avoid contact with rough surfaces.
  • The less a piece of jewellery rubs against something the longer the life it will have.
  • MEL JEWEL recommends that each piece is put away separately into a bag or box.
  • Sterling silver jewellery should be cleaned with a polishing cloth.
  • Keep jewellery pieces with natural stones, such as pearls, well away from chemical agents such as soap, perfume, creams and detergents as they are more susceptible than other gems. Avoid direct contact with heat such as lighting and radiators as precious stones like these will disintegrate.

GOLD AND DIAMOND JEWELLERY CARE

Thanks to its hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, a diamond will only become scratched if one is rubbed against another. Regardless of this, it is important to get into the habit of taking care of such a precious and delicate stone.

Suggestions for the care of 19,2 kt gold and diamond jewellery:

  • To clean jewellery always use soap and warm water (neutral PH) and a brush with soft bristles. Dry afterwards with a cloth.
  • A diamond can very easily scratch other stones and metals so try to keep them from rubbing against each other.
